Why did you become a sexologist?

I have always wanted to be in a position to help people. Sex was openly discussed in my family and I felt so comfortable with the topic, but I realised that not everyone is comfortable discussing it, especially young adults! This realisation gave me the opportunity to see this was something that Australians needed; a person to turn to in order to get guidance on sexuality. I started my clinical practice and social media education and voooom! My career blew up!

What are some of the most common issues clients come to see you for?

Anything and everything to do with sex. I see individuals and couples for sex advice, therapy and empowerment. Common questions I hear include:

  • My partner wants to have sex more often than I do
  • Our desires are different as a couple
  • We would like to get more out of our relationship
  • Sex is difficult! I have a sexual problem or my partner has a sexual problem
  • My partner and I are growing apart
  • I don’t have an intimate relationship
  • I have issues or problems that interfere with sex and relationships
  • My illness is affecting my sex life or my relationship

If you could change one thing about the way people think about sex, what would it be?

I would implore people to be more open-minded. Sex is so normal. It is messy, sweaty and individual! Never judge others on their sexual choices. Look at someone’s sexual kinks as part of their beautiful individuality. We really need to remember that sex is about being yourself and showing empathy for everyone else's sexual preferences!

If you had to give one piece of universal advice that could improve people's sex lives, what would it be?

Just remember that sex is an umbrella term. It doesn't mean penetration and orgasm, it is everything that is on the sexual menu. I ask that people add to their sexual menu and explore different options, spices and cuisines in the bedroom. It takes work and curiosity!

What is your favourite sex toy?

Currently I am LOVING the Lovehoney Greedy Girl Rabbit Vibrator. Giving me that dual orgasm — yum!
